We chatted with Cody Chase to learn more about what he likes to do aside from music. Check out our interview with Cody Chase below.

Hey Cody Chase, how are you?

I’m freakin’ phenomenal, thank you for asking! Nothing makes you feel more alive than ‘chasin’ your dreams.

Do you have any hobbies or would you like to try a new one?

When I’m not DJing or running my canna-business, I do have a few hobbies that keep me entertained.

I’m a big big water guy. When the weather is warm (and it is most of the time in Miami) I love to be in or on the water. When there are waves, I love to surf. When the wind and waves are a bit calmer and I have the opportunity, I’ll wakeboard or wakesurf. I am also an avid fisherman and love to fish for Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi or Marlin. I am also a certified scuba diver and enjoy lobstering and spearfishing grouper.

When in colder mountainous environments, I love to shred the pow. My Dad had me on skis by the time I could walk and has made skiing a bonding activity we enjoyed doing together. Having grown up near quite a few small mountains in NJ, NY and PA, skiing gave my Dad an opportunity for him and me to connect and bond over a sport we still do together to this day.

Where’s your favourite spot to relax and reconnect with yourself?

I think because of my upbringing, my two favourite spots to reconnect with myself are the beach and the mountains. Sitting on a quiet beach soaking up the sun or swimming in the waves, always gives me a sense of connection back to the earth. I’m lucky to live across the street from the beach, so if I’m stressed or not feeling well, I’ll go for a swim in the ocean and often leave feeling so much better.

Having lived in Colorado for several years, I find that I am most at peace when I take a moment and sit down in the glades, not a soul around, soaking in the silence and tranquility that only a snow-covered mountain forest can offer.

Do you like sports? And do you have a favourite team or athlete you follow?

I enjoy sports a lot. As a kid, I played in just about every sport. I played a lot of baseball and lacrosse growing up. In the winters, I was on swim and ski teams for many years. In high school, I ran cross country, swam on the swim team, and played Tennis. Continuing in college, I joined CU Boulder’s club swim team, which was cool because we swam against and beat some, Big12 programs.

Now as an adult who lives in South Florida, but grew up near NYC, I am torn between teams. I love my NY/NJ teams but living down here, I find myself rooting for the Miami teams too.

I am still a die-hard Yankees fan as was instilled in me as a kid, watching the Yankees with my grandfather. That said, Beerfest at Marlins Park in Miami is a great time! Hockey is my favourite sport to watch in person. Growing up, I would cheer for the Rangers and the Devils, but living down here has taught me to love the Panthers. My wife and I love going to games, and so long as the Rangers or Devils aren’t in town, I’m rooting for the Cats. I also like basketball. My Dad had season tickets to the NJ Nets during the Jason Kidd and Vince Carter years. However, I became a Knicks fan when the Nets announced they were moving to Brooklyn. Now down here, I’ll root for the Heat when they’re on. My favorite sport to watch is American Football where I root for the NY Giants and now the Miami Dolphins, both of which made the playoffs after a long playoff drought.

Do you have a special routine, tradition or habit you always do before a live performance?

I like take a nootropic supplement (shout out Onnit’s AlphaBrain) 45 minutes before getting on stage. Then right before I go up, I like to slap myself in the face. I know it’s strange but it sends a reset signal to my brain. I find that it helps me get into my flow state, and once I’m there, I don’t have to think, I just do.

If you could meet someone for coffee, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

I would choose to meet Frankie Knuckles. He was a pioneer in the Chicago House music scene and had a huge impact on shaping the genre as we know it today. It would be an honour to pick his brain and learn more about his creative process and the history of the music I love to play. On the other hand, Juan Atkins is often considered the “Godfather of Detroit Techno.” He, along with Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May, were the three producers who pioneered the genre in the 1980s in Detroit, Michigan. They were among the first to use synthesisers and drum machines to create a unique sound that was heavily influenced by funk, soul, and electro. They are often referred to as the “Belleville Three” as they all attended high school together in Belleville, Michigan.

Let’s say you start a new career, non-music related, what would you do?

I will still continue to pursue ventures outside of dance music as an investor and consultant. In addition to my canna-business and crypto portfolio, I have small ownership interests in other businesses as well. I love seeing something go from conception and building to operations and execution. Who knows, maybe there will be a Chase Tank in the future.

What will surely always put you in a good mood no matter what?

House and Techno, every time.

Can you describe a perfect weekend?

Easy. Ultra Miami.

Finally, which 3 items would you take with you to a desert island?

A knife, a metal bottle, and a satellite phone with GPS so I can call myself a ride off the island when I’m ready to bounce!
